Facts

Scholarships:  Since the beginning of the program in 2002, Alam Aksara has provided scholarships to a total of 132 students. Currently, 78 students are receiving financial support: 25 in university, 32 in high school, 16 in middle school, and 5 in elementary school. We also have 41 graduates: 18 from university and 23 from high school.

Locations: The current 78 scholarship recipients are located in 11 provinces of Indonesia: Aceh, Riau, Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, Central Java, Bali, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara. We continue to work to expand our operations into other regions, particularly the poorer and more neglected areas of eastern Indonesia.

Paid Staff: Alam Aksara depends entirely on volunteers. We have no paid staff.

Administrative Expenses: No administrative expenses are deducted from sponsors’ contributions. We pass along 100 percent to the student. The organizers cover administrative costs out of their own pockets or through the occasional contribution made specifically for such costs.

Cost of a Sponsorship: See Costs.
