Graduate in Japanese from UNNES

Wisuda 1bHearty congratulations to Masiyama Fitriani on her graduation on 22 October 2015!

Masiyama began receiving an Alam Aksara scholarship in 2012. At that time, she held a D3 associate’s degree in Japanese language studies from the Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) and was teaching as an adjunct faculty member at a technical high school in Purwokerto. But in order to become a tenured teacher, she needed a bachelor’s degree, and so she decided to enter the Teacher Qualification Program in Japanese at UNNES.

For two years, Masiyama commuted between the university in Semarang and her home in Purwokerto, a distance of over 200 km. During that time, she continued to teach and also ran a small online business to help with the family finances. Then work on her graduation thesis was interrupted for a time by the birth of her son in late 2013.

But, says Masiyama, “I am convinced that if we are truly determined, God will surely show us the way,” and indeed, she showed this to be true when she successfully completed her program of study and received her bachelor’s degree.

Congratulations, Masiyama. We hope that this is the first step in opening up new opportunities for you, including pursuing a master’s degree in Japan. Omedetō gozaimasu.
